Barker: PNG shouldn’t worry over U.S withdrawal

U.S President Donald Trump recently announced that he was withdrawing the US from the Paris climate accord, which he claimed placed financial burdens on the American people.

Barker explained that other countries in the world have begun negotiating the rulebook for the implementation of the climate deal.

He said the biggest contributors to environmental reforms tend to be some of those developed countries like Norway with small populations and yet, they have been at the forefront.

Trump travel ban suffers new court defeat

A lower court had issued the injunction on the grounds that the ban was discriminatory after a challenge by the state of Hawaii.

It is a further legal setback for the president's efforts to get the ban he promised his supporters.

Mr Trump's own tweet from 5 June was cited in the judges' ruling.

The 90-day ban was to apply to people from Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. It also called for a 120-day ban on all refugees.

PNG stands firm on Paris Agreement

Climate Change & Development Authority (CCDA) managing director, Ruel Yamuna, said this in response to U.S President Donald Trump’s recent announcement.

Yamuna said PNG will continue to negotiate for the strongest possible outcome to ensure climate action is implemented.

He said PNG, through CCDA in partnership with key government departments, state agencies and other development partners, will continue to work with all stakeholders to implement PNG’s obligations under the Paris Agreement.

Trump’s decision will impact PNG: Polye

"His decision will affect us as a beneficiary of $7.5 million (K23 million) from the US Agency for International Development under the Paris Climate Agreement,” Polye said.

The alternative government stance will be to work closely with President Donald Trump’s administration on how USA can support PNG on climate change because of the decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement.

“One of the four main pillars of the agreement was that the rich member countries should fund fellow poor countries to help boost environment resilience.”

Haley: 'President Trump believes the climate is changing'

"President Trump believes the climate is changing and he believes pollutants are part of the equation," Haley said Saturday, answering a central question in the wake of his decision to withdraw the country from the Paris climate accord.

Trump "knows that it's changing and that the US has to be responsible for it and that's what we're going to do," she continued, adding that withdrawing from the Paris agreement won't change the country's commitment to curbing climate change.

Tech leaders defy Trump on climate deal

Mr Trump's move has been met with dismay from other world leaders signed up to the accord - but much of the outcry can be heard on the west coast of his own country.

The chief executives of Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook have all criticised the president's decision.

Elon Musk, who had been a member of Mr Trump's business panel, announced he would leave the post.

CNN fires Kathy Griffin

CNN's decision comes one day after photos were released of Griffin that showed the comedian holding up a bloody head resembling that of President Donald Trump.

"CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year's Eve program," the network said in a statement.

Griffin has apologized for the photos, taken by provocative celebrity photographer Tyler Shields.

Trump typo: 'Covfefe' tweet mocked on internet

It was an apparent typo in a tweet by US President Donald Trump, and internet users have been mocking him mercilessly.

"Despite the constant negative press covfefe," he tweeted just after midnight, Washington time.

And he then appeared to have gone to bed, without finishing his thought or correcting his mistake.

Although it seems likely the word he was reaching for was "coverage", social media users have been trying to guess other alternatives or motivations.

US comedian Kathy Griffin apologises for 'beheaded Trump' photo

In a video message posted on Twitter, Kathy Griffin "begged" for forgiveness and said she had "crossed a line".

She said she was asking celebrity photographer Tyler Shields to remove the photo from the internet.

The gruesome image brought a storm of online criticism, including from Mr Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr.

Emmanuel Macron proves why the Trump handshake matters so much

Emmanuel Macron, for one.

The newly elected French president told a French journal Sunday that his handshake with US President Donald Trump during a meeting during the NATO gathering in Brussels last week was about much more than just an exchange of pleasantries.

"My handshake with him, it's not innocent," Macron said. "It's not the alpha and the omega of politics, but a moment of truth."

He added: "One must show that we won't make little concessions, even symbolic ones."
