Although Bannah grew up in Port Moresby, he decided to gift his father’s community by giving his L3 classroom project to Behir Primary School in Madang District.

“My father attended Behir Primary School and then moved to Port Moresby thereafter in search of job opportunities so that he could give our family a better chance, and so, me rewarding Behir Primary School with a new classroom is my way of saying thank you to the school for educating my father,” he said.

It is in its tenth year of working in the space of development, providing opportunities to member of rural and remote communities with basic education and health services.

Displaying models of the infrastructure that have been rolled out to the rural remote communities, Digicel Foundation’s stall surely caught the eyes of the exhibiters and the elected members of the parliament.

The Foundation’s K150,000 contribution allows the completion of the project, as well as have it shipped to PNG next month.  

This new floatplane will provide life-saving flights for people living along the Sepik River who are in desperate need of medical care to the main hospital in Wewak.

Whilst thanking Digicel PNG Foundation for the partnership, Samaritan Aviation President, Mark Palm, said the US based Christian organisation relies on US donors as well as the PNG Government for support.

Firmly rooted in this belief, the telecommunication business through Digicel PNG Foundation has reached out and touched the lives of Papua New Guineans nationwide, under the leadership of outgoing chief executive officer Beatrice Mahuru, who announced her resignation after 7 years of dedicated service.

Mahuru announced her resignation yesterday after dedicating 7 years of service as the Digicel PNG Foundation CEO.

The momentous occasion is in celebration of Digicel Foundation’s yearlong Tenth Anniversary Celebration, with the gifting of new classrooms to its inaugural education infrastructure project in 2008 at Barakau Primary School.

The Project will cost K1 million and will consist of 4 classrooms fully kitted with 160 desks, blackboards, 2 teachers’ office spaces with desks, solar powered lighting and a WASH component with toilets, showers and water tanks.

Digicel PNG Foundation on Tuesday signed the partnership agreement with 4L Training and Consultants Limited for the Community Learning Centre (CLC) Tisa Training Program.

The signing took place at the Gomore CLC in Central Province, an hour’s drive out of Port Moresby. This was witnessed by parents and family of the small CLC students and James Morrissey, an important friend of the patron of Digicel Foundation, Dennis O’Brien, who had travelled from Ireland in the morning.  

A local woman along with members of her local Rotary Club in Sydney donated a 20 foot container of library books to the foundation.

Karo Haltmeier with members of her Kenthrust Rotary Club collected books to help the foundation fill up library structures that they had built.

Mrs Haltmeier shared her experiences about how books helped her understand the world better, given her experiences outside the country.

She also had the opportunity to go with the foundation to visit two schools in the Autonomous region of Bougainville recently to see the books being set up.

With the aim to promote a clean and safe community through awareness and action, Digicel Foundation signed the MOA on Friday with the Vabukori Harricane Rugby League for the Klin Kominiti Program to address pressing social and health concerns through sports.

The Digicel PNG Foundation, by way of endowing in early childhood learning, has invested in the Community Learning Centre (CLC) TISA program which aims to build the capacity of CLC teachers and board members.

This is to effectively deliver early childhood learning and development programs to effectively raise CLC school standards to achieve quality outcome for children and stakeholders involved.

To date, the community has supported up to 260 community based teachers, impacting over 1,000 children and community members.

The projects will be co-funded by Digicel PNG Foundation and the local member’s office and Minister for Public Service, Elias Kapavore.

Pomio is the first district in the 10^th government to work in collaboration with Digicel PNG Foundation to respond to the community’s health and education needs.

Digicel PNG Foundation CEO, Beatrice Mahuru, said the Foundation seeks opportunities to work together to leverage resources, share strengths, increase efficiency and reduce overlap to tackle PNG’s social issues.
