Foreign Affairs prioritizes on restoring confidence

Minister Tkatchenko who was reinstated last Friday, while thanking the Prime Minister and Government for the confidence of reappointment, outlined a priority list for the department - an immediate work plan of the Marape-Rosso Government following the events of Wednesday, January 10.

Minister Tkatchenko said it is paramount and is an immediate priority for Foreign Affairs, to regain the confidence of the international community and organisations here and abroad.

Nineteen in New Zealand for Foreign Service training

The programme is a foundational training for officers entering the Papua New Guinea Foreign Service. It is supported by the New Zealand Government and will be conducted by the Victoria University of Wellington.

PNG's Foreign Affairs establishes ‘help desk’

Parents and relatives of those affected by the outbreak in China and other parts of the world can reach out to this help desk for consular service information.

The Department of Immigration and Border Security has set up a help desk to give updates on the coronavirus outbreak.

The PNG Embassy in China will be supplying the help desk with status reports on a daily basis.

DWU partners with Foreign Affairs department

During the 35th DWU Graduation Ceremony, Deputy Secretary (Operations) for Department of Foreign Affairs, Amb Alexis Maino said, "it is an honour and privilege to present the 2017 Foreign Affairs Awards to the two recipients including Justine Ale and Geoffery Ronny from the PNG Studies and International Relations Department (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences).

"Both awardees received the Silver Medal for academic excellence."

Maino highlighted that one of the key objectives of the Department of Foreign Affairs is capacity building.

Workshop to validate final Trade Policy

The final document is a result of wider stakeholder consultation with European Union assistance under their Trade Related Assistance program-Phase 2 (EU TRA 2) by providing expertise.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Commerce and Industry had a local drafting team supported by local consultants put together this document.

The aim of the workshop was to allow stakeholders to go through the policy to give their inputs and see if there are any issues that need validating to allow the policy to fine tune.

PNG diplomat says training program a boost for Pacific diplomacy

Peter Eafeare is in New Zealand as part of the program in which PNG's Department of Foreign Affairs partners with its New Zealand counterpart ministry, and Victoria University of Wellington, to train recruits and officers from other departments.

Mr Eafeare, who is one of PNG's leading diplomats, said the aim of the program is to build the capacity of officers in the foreign service and line agencies in the foundation skills of diplomacy.

He said PNG's proximity to Asia, and its role in the Pacific, is instructive in its diplomatic development.
