The sport is part and partial of this community since many years ago but did not happen for a long time, and so the people of Kapari-Viriolo were very happy to see it happen.

Port Moresby Konepoti CC President, Puana Agi said it is the first time for such a tournament to be hosted in the village.

He said the first three days of the tournament teams will play the normal full games with four teams in each of the two pools. That is Pool A and B.

Smith captaincy ban over

That is a question that took on new relevance on Sunday after Smith's two-year leadership ban ended.

Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were suspended from cricket after a ball-tampering scandal on the 2018 tour of South Africa.

A scheme was cooked up to use sandpaper to doctor the ball, with Smith being aware of the plan but doing nothing to prevent it going ahead.

Disgraced by the incident, Smith was served with a one-year playing ban that began on March 29, 2018, with a further 12-month suspension from leading Australia in any format of the game.

Sri Lanka's Pakistan tour in doubt

An armed attack on the Sri Lanka team coach in Lahore in 2009 saw seven team members among the injured, while six policemen and two civilians were killed.

Three ODIs are scheduled to take place in Karachi on September 27, 29 and October 3, before a series of Twenty20s in Lahore.

The weather dampened the impressive start when Vanuatu men’s cricket team bowled the less experienced New Caledonia team out for 23 runs.

Vanuatu quickly passed this total to finish the match, following a rain delay.

Papua New Guinea then commenced their innings chasing Samoa’s 84 runs.

They struggled to complete the first round match due to persistent showers which meant the overs were reduced to 15.
