Their pool matches will be against Bangladesh, USA and hosts Scotland, with the top two through to the semifinals. The other pool consists of Ireland, Thailand, Netherlands and Namibia; the two teams that reach the grand final will win a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia next year.

They will play the first round of the CWC League two against the host nation and Oman, in Aberdeen. This is a triangular series were they play each nation twice in the 50 over format.

Coach Joe Dawes while announcing the team said: “The bulk of the team should show no surprises with many of the current players in good form throughout the recent Curtain Bros T20 Smash. We have two new faces in Gaudi Toka and Riley Hekure as well as Hiri Hiri returning to the squad.

National Coach Joe Dawes made this statement at a press conference this morning in Port Moresby.

The Curtain Brothers T20 Cricket PNG Smash started this morning with four teams in the competition; ODG Mariners, Trak Pro Mud Men, Toyota Cassowaries and Hastings Deering Black Bass.

Coach Dawes said the young men have to outshine their colleagues if they want to be part of the national team that will be taking part in a tri-Series with Scotland and Oman, to be played from the 14th - 21st August in Aberdeen, Scotland.

This follows a serious breach of ICC’s Player Code of Conduct Article 2.21 Bringing the Game into Disrepute at the recent ICC U19 Cricket World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifiers hosted in Japan.

The players will also be suspended from playing domestic cricket for the remainder of 2019.

As part of the sanction imposed by the Cricket PNG Board, the suspended players will also undertake 60 hours of community service and take part in a counselling program with either a qualified counsellor or village elder.

Cricket PNG regretfully advised supporters that the national under 19 team was withdrawn from the ICC EAP under 19 World Cup Qualifiers.

“This is due to a number of players being suspended for internal disciplinary reasons and failing to adhere to our strict codes of conduct,” stated CPNG.

“We will address this issue further on return to Port Moresby and will not field any questions until that time.

Chair of CPNG Helen Macindoe announced the news recently at Cricket Haus, Amini Park.

“Our Board is very pleased to know we’re going to have both Greg and Joe on board for at least the next couple of years. Most people know about the recent achievements of the Barras and Lewas, and the level of competition they’re going to be exposed to over next two years.

The visitors will be travelling to Port Moresby to compete in the series which will comprise of a T20 and a 50 Over Series.

The T20 Series will take place from 1-7th October, featuring the Hebou PNG Barramundis, Hong Kong and the CPNG Academy XI. Each team will play each other twice with the top two (2) teams playing off in the final on Sunday 7th October, 2018.

The three (3) match 50 Over Series will take place straight after the T20 Series between the Hebou PNG Barramundis and Hong Kong on the 9th, 10th and 12th October.

CPNG Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Greg Campbell, was very thankful about this announcement and the formation of a new partnership.

CPNG chairperson, Helen Macindoe, made the statement after the announcement of the sponsorship agreement with the airline on Wednesday.

The partnership between Cricket PNG and PNG Air basically means that more people will be able to play.

CPNG chairperson, Helen Macindoe, said this makes the building of 48 wickets around the country more exciting.

“And one of our objectives is to lift the profile of cricket in the country,” she said. “And the partnership with PNG Air will certainly help that.

During the announcement today, PNG Air sales and marketing manager, Linda Honey, said it was important for the airline to engage and help grow athletes within the country.

The announcement was made at the PNG Air head office at Seven-Mile, Port Moresby, where Honey said the airline will be transporting athletes from the outside provinces to Port Moresby, and vice versa.

She said they anticipate moving around 200,000 young adults to engage and grow in the sport of cricket.

In terms of the payment of airfares, Honey stated it would predominantly be free-of-charge.
