President of the PNG Europe Business Council Inc., Michael Sullivan, in a statement said, the lower-than-expected recovery for 2021 is mainly due to an anticipated decline in the mineral sector and the uncertainties associated with the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the growth in the mineral sector, which includes oil and gas has also been revised downwards because of the closure of the Porgera gold mine while the non-mineral sector is expected to do better.

With this year’s theme 'Bringing Expectations with Reality: 2017 and beyond, the conference has attracted practising accountants in the country and abroad.

The conference was officially opened by Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan. Speakers were both from public and private sectors.

The two day conference will end tomorrow.

 The conference was sponsored by BSP as platinum sponsor, pwc and IBS as hold sponsors and others include CPL, Glory Group of companies, Times and Access, NDB, PNG Ports, Omega, Avis, and IBBM.

 Gazebo Club committee from Tabubil, Western Province, came on board the sponsorship band wagon to support the female officers with K2000 this week.

Gazebo Club president Akolo Kotange, when presenting the cheque to police representatives, acknowledged the hard work put in by the men and women in blue to protect the mining township.

“We the Gazebo Club committee, on behalf of our members, have donated K2000 to the policewomen in North Fly for them to attend the 9th policewomen’s conference in Lae,” Kotange said.

The NTDC, which meets on a quarterly basis, is a senior level forum for decision making and coordination of trade development policy in Solomon Islands including trade policy formulation and trade mainstreaming into national development plans.

It also ensures effective coordination amongst government ministries, private sector organizations and civil society organizations.
