Coalition of Workers Unions

Workers call for political voice in Parliament

They say for too long, the concerns of all workers in PNG have continuously been suppressed both by the government, Government agencies, employer organisations and major developers in PNG.

COWU is made up of over 10 Unions throughout the country from different sectors including maritime, communications, energy, police, correctional services, teachers, nurses and airlines.

On behalf of the Unions, PNGCWU president Nuq Mamtirin said it is strange to see and experience the hardships that all citizen workers are facing including health insurance and housing.

Workers unions unite with political party

The workers unions include Maritime and Waterside Union, PNG Communication Workers Union (PNGCWU), PNG Energy Workers Union, National Airlines Employees Association, National Nurses Association and PNG Teachers Association.

The partnership will represent a new chapter for workers' direct participation in politics, their voices heard and interests better represented in Government through the PPP.

Party leader Ben Micah said, when addressing the unions, that this will enable the workers to have direct input into policies and laws affecting their welfare and interests.
