New Goroka airport terminal will open: Minister

The facility was officially opened in May.

Civil Aviation Minister, Alfred Manasseh, confirmed this today in Parliament when asked by Goroka MP Henry Ame to explain the delay.

Ame raised this concern after finding out from the staff of Air Niugini in Goroka that the high cost of rental from the National Civil Aviation Authority has been stopping them from moving to the new building.

He said the terminal had already been officially opened but yet to be used, jokingly saying the mosquitoes and other insects might already be occupying the building.

Minimizing air travel cost a must

Speaking during the launching of the “National Airline Corporations Sustainable Growth Strategy” Manase said he wants to ensure that air travel is affordable for all Papua New Guineans.

He said he will undertake discussions with all stakeholders within the industry and believes that affordable flying can be achieved.

Meantime the corporate plan launching was held in a Town Hall meeting fashion with NAC staff witnessing the event.

Davies extends gratitude

Speaking at the Civil Aviation Sector Leaders Conference today, Minister Davies made a personal appreciation for the support and leadership in the five years he was Minister for Civil Aviation.
