World stocks drift lower ahead of Greek vote; China plunges

KEEPING SCORE: European stocks were mixed in early trading, with France's CAC 40 slipping 0.1 percent to 4,828.72 while Germany's DAX was flat at 11,096.84. Britain's FTSE 100 edged 0.1 percent lower to 6,622.15. U.S. markets were closed for the Independence Day holiday weekend.

Bus falls off bridge, killing 10 South Koreans

The accident took place Wednesday after the vehicle left the northeastern Chinese city of Ji'an and was about halfway to its destination of Dandong, which borders North Korea, the official Xinhua News agency said.

China's Foreign Ministry said 28 people were aboard the bus — 26 South Koreans plus one driver and one tour guide from China. Ten South Koreans and the driver were killed, ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, expressing condolences to the victims.

Chinese premier calls for deal to keep Greece in eurozone

"Whether Greece stays within the euro is not only a question that concerns Europe, but also concerns China and Europe," Li Keqiang told reporters at the end of an EU-China summit meeting in Brussels. 

"In addition, this is also something that concerns world financial stability and economic recovery."

Li noted his country is a major customer and supplier for the 28-nation EU, and a long-term holder of eurobonds. He said China is in favor of a united and prosperous EU, as well as a strong euro.

China top suspect in government agency hacks

The comments from Clapper, the director of National Intelligence (DNI), were first reported in The Wall Street Journal and marked the first time the Obama administration has publicly accused Beijing of the hacking attacks on the Office of Personnel Management.

"You have to kind of salute the Chinese for what they did," given the difficulty of the intrusion, the Journal quoted Clapper as saying at a Washington intelligence conference.

US, China to cooperate on ocean preservation

Secretary of State John Kerry says that indicates the two nations are "working hard to address differences and to find the areas of commonality."

The two governments discussed ocean policy on the final day Wednesday of high-level talks on security and the economy.

Despite growing tensions over cybertheft and China's island-building in the disputed South China Sea, the U.S. and China are stressing how they can work together on less contentious issues, such as climate change.
