K140,000 raised for Cancer Ward

The NCDC Active City Development Program (ACDP) in collaboration with the French Embassy and Friends of POMGEN organized the event to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer treatment.
 
In its second year, the Pinktober Run shattered records with over 1,000 participants, doubling the number from the previous year and significantly increasing funds directed to the PMGH Cancer Ward.
 

PwC Corporate Challenge raises K176,000

The event, featuring a five-kilometre run or walk, aimed to inspire community action, bringing together businesses and communities for a common cause.

Staying true to its commitment, the run sought to raise funds for local charities and non-profit organizations focusing on health, education, women, and children. Notable beneficiaries included the Port Moresby General Hospital, Ginigoada Business Development Foundation, WeCare, and ChildFund.

The run for charity

The event has been running for over 20 years and its main goal is to raise over K100,000 for local charities.

The five-kilometre fun run (or walk) is one of Port Moresby’s major charity events, and funds raised from the event go towards supporting our communities in the areas of health, education, women and children.

The event invites the business community to put in as many teams as they like, consisting of five people per team at a cost of K1000, all of which goes to charity.

This year, the race will start and end at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

Ramu Nico participate in golf fundraiser

The teams from Ramu NiCo consist of “Team Ramu NiCo” that represented the resource developer and teams from the Land Owner Companies of the Ramu Nickel Project; Raibus Limited, Ramu Transport Service and the Basamuk Landowner Association.

Ramu NiCo Community Affairs Deputy General Manager, Albert Tobe, said Ramu NiCo was happy to help in the cause that serves the health and wellbeing of the people of Madang.

Teens on charity mission

Both McPolly and Tyson Petri travelled from Mt Hagen to Goroka to give food to prison inmates.

The charity's mission is to assist the less fortunate members of the community. Their father, Koiya Peri, had started this and sadly left this gesture of kindness behind when he died.

Late Peri was a prominent Lawyer and Managing Partner with Warner Shand Lawyers at the time of his passing in Mt Hagen.

Both boys also provided food to sick children at the Goroka hospital, the Goroka Police cell remandees and the homeless people on the streets of Goroka town.  

Annual charity rugby focuses on prostate cancer

The aim of this year’s charity event is to raise funds to support work on prostate cancer.  

The charity rugby tournament, which started in 2016, is an initiative of the Port Moresby Fiss-Potts Club.

The charity association, registered under the Investment Promotion Authority, aims to support charitable causes within the community through rugby.

“We started off in 2016 with 6 teams. Last year we had 9 teams and this year we have 11 teams so the interest is growing,” said Jack Kariko, President of the POM Fiss-Potts Rugby Club.

Motor company helps raise K67, 000 for charity

CEO of 2 Fast Motors, Billy Lin confirmed that K67, 152. 55 at the company’s car wash outlet at Vision City on Saturday.

Lin said that the Chinese community had contributed K58,000 in cash and cheques, car wash K8,126 and sausage sizzle K1,025.55.

He commended the Chinese community in Port Moresby for their personal donations for worthy cause to support unfortunate children education.

“This car wash drive for charity organisation has set the record within only seven hour more than K67, 000 was raised.

OSM reaches out to street kids

The OSM started in 2010 established under the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Moresby.

The ministry has been helping children continue their education by providing school materials, meals, school uniforms and other necessities.

It recently received a donation of K5, 000 from the India Association PNG that will go towards carrying out their work.

Sr Jeanne-Adeline thanked IAPNG for the kind gesture as it was very touching especially for the love of the unfortunate.

India Association aids charity organisations

The charity organisations are PNG Children's Foundation (PNGCF), Office of Street Ministry, Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate and the Cancer Foundation PNG (CFPNG).

The PNGCF received K10, 000 which will go towards assisting needy children around PNG. The goal of the Foundation is to sustain healthy and happy PNG children.

PNGCF President Yiannis Nicolaou was thankful for the kind donation and confirmed that the funds will help with a new classroom they’re building at Six Mile settlement.

Nicolaou said anymore donations for that will be welcomed.

Foundation established to help people in Chimbu

The Wiwe Hora Relief Foundation (WHRF) launched the programs on Jan 4, 2017.

WHRF is a Chimbu based rural non-profit NGO  aim to serve the people in their community as well as other surrounding communities.

The foundation was established in 2015 during the drought period which affected most the rural communities in the Highlands.

The main objectives of WHRF is to relieve the rural communities in any disaster stricken events and as well as emergency cases, like death.

So far, WHRF has delivered two lots of relief supplies to Wara Sua Community in 2015.
