Liquor Problem In Central

He made these comments following reported incidents of intoxicated young men harassing communities during the Christmas and New Year period in the province. PPC Midi said these incidents were contained because of community support and police presence.

He further called on church and community leaders to find ways in addressing these social problems.

The PPC said roadblocks along the Hiritano and Magi highways helped in the reduction of drink driving with no major accidents reported over the festive period.

PPL Extends Power Distribution Grid

On Thursday this week the PPL were at Bina LLG, which is the first village of the 4th and final phase. In this community, the power contractors have connected and energized more than 20 houses including the classrooms, staff houses, aid post, and also houses for the local community.

The project is supported by grant funding of NZ$20 million through the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) to enable PPL to Deliver the Rural on Grid Extension Project (ROGEP) in the Central Province.

Talks Ongoing To Subsidize Ambulance Cost

Acting Central Provincial Administrator, Francis Koaba confirmed that the provincial government is in close consultation with SJA to fund transportation cost of services.

“Governor Robert Agarobe and St. John Ambulance CEO, Matt Cannon have been having conversations, so we are looking at subsiding transport cost. Talk is still in progress and we are looking at subsiding the cost in due course,” Mr Koaba said.

COVID-19 Surge in Central Province

Chief Executive Officer, Matt Cannon said they are alarmed and concerned by an increase in patients needing ambulance transport for COVID-19, adding this suggests that Central may be on the cusp of a wave of COVID-19.

On Thursday 4th November, their ambulances attended to seven cases, four of whom tested positive to COVID-19.

Students Sit Exam Amid Challenges

The 16 Grade 8 students including 10 male and six females, started their examinations on Monday 25th October with English Paper 1, followed by Mathematics, Combined Subjects and ended the exams with the final English Paper 2 on Thursday October 28, 2021.

The school administration faced many challenges especially in the fourth term disrupting classes. Staff and especially the Grade 8 students had little time to prepare for the exams.

Health Workers Needed for Central

“Anybody who is less than 63 years old and also those who have recently graduated from a Nursing school must report immediately to the Provincial Operation Center (POC) here at Konedobu,” said Dr Amini.

Dr Amini said this is a nationwide call out made by the National Health Department for 600 CHW or nursing officers to be recruited immediately.

Books for Literacy

Celebrated on the 8th of September annually, International Literacy Day has been celebrated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 1967 to raise awareness on the importance of literacy in building a more literate and sustainable society.

Policeman arrested for assault

Police confirmed that the police officer was formally arrested, charged and detained at the Boroko Police cell on Friday, 23rd April.

The victim posted on social media detailing the assault that took place on April, 10th, before Bautama along the Magi Highway, Central Province.

The victim was travelling along the highway when she encountered a traffic infringement and was assaulted, she was later assisted by family and locals. 

New church opened in Kalo

The new church building, worth more than one million kina, opened last Saturday in the presence of a large crowd from Kalo and neighbouring villages.

Pastor for the Kalo Church Salvation Army, Captain John Raga, acknowledged the project architect Late Robert Kapi for his effort in the building of the church till his passing.

He said 11 pioneers passed away during the building of the church while a member of the group and oldest serving soldier, Golo Doge, raised the flag during the opening.

Governor Parkop assures Central people

Parkop called on Port Moresby residents to respect the central people and let them have access to the markets and services available in the city.

“When Central people come in, they are entitled to go to market, entitled to go to the hospital, to go to the schools, to go to allocated government services that is here that will have benefit to both National Capital and Central province. I want to make that very clear.”
