Governor Peter prioritizes police housing

Central Province Governor, Rufina Peter when delivering her independence message last week, says the Central Provincial Government has allocated funding in this year’s budget to renovate police housing at Tapini and Bereina stations.

She said the Central Provincial Government is looking to embark on a training program for reserve police personnel.

This, the Governor believes will cut down on the cost of maintaining and building housing.

“The PEC has resolved to see the peace and reconciliation program rolled out to the remaining LLGs in the Golilala District and be completed before Sept 12, 2025. I believe in doing so, we prepare our people to participate meaningfully and as responsible and valued citizens of this country to the development of their local communities,” said the governor.

In 2016, he was assigned to the Central Province to Vanapa along the Hiritano Highway. Waruo has been teaching in various schools throughout the province since then.

Veifa Afa’ai access road upgrade

Villagers of Veifa, Afa’ai, Apiana, Rarai, Inauoni, Ivivu and the Goilala Village of Mariboi have struggled to travel this road due to continuous law and order issues and torrential rain during the wet weather making travel unsafe and hazardous.

The eight villages will now benefit from the new Veifa-Afai'a access road, a 25km highway that will cut a course all the way into the hinterlands of West Mekeo District, an initiative of Central Province Governor Rufina Peter who launched the project over a month ago.

Central schools receive support

The Government of India through its embassy in Port Moresby supports this endeavor.

In a joint press conference at the Central Provincial headquarters in Port Moresby, Central Province Governor Rufina Peter highlighted that education is a key priority in her plans for the province.

The injury was severe, resulting in a significant opening in the sternum that exposed his internal organs.

He was taken to the Akufa health centre where the staff promptly recognised the complexity of the case and determined that immediate referral to Port Moresby General Hospital was necessary.

Small holder farmers urged to train

Launakalana Farmer supervisor, Kaile Korowi, is urging small holder farmers in the province to train how to farm cattle, goats and various other farm animals.

“We look after cattle, they will look after us in many ways. People can make a lot of money through cattle if you start it well and continue. If this much money can be made, small holder farmers are urged to take care of it and breeding. If you need help please come to the estate, we have a training program to help out. If you need cattle we also have here to support,” said Korowi.

Aroma people want road fixed

Surrounding villagers have been working together for several months to fix the road conditions with rice bags filled with gravel, tree trunks, and excessive grass to allow flow.

For PMVs carrying passengers, it is a day’s work to get past the muddy patches pulling and pushing vehicles to get through, whilst many smaller vehicles won’t make it at all due to the density of the muddy areas.

Pastor Vincent Ahi who serves as a District Director of the village court in Aroma gave his insights on the work that has been done recently.

Bound for Central

The cattle are from Sialum, in the Tewai-Siassi district, and Erap, Huon Gulf district. They were supposed to leave for Launakalana, in Central Province, last week.

However, the trip was delayed due to bad weather.

On Friday, August 11th, 54 steers, cows and heifers were loaded from Sialum onto a barge bound for Voco Point in Lae. Bad weather slowed the trip down, with the Sialum cattle arriving at Voco Point on Monday morning.
