Australian volunteers support

Among these dedicated individuals is Paul Semple, a retired ABC broadcast journalist and Australian volunteer. Paul has been assigned to the Communications Division of the United Nations in Papua New Guinea (PNG), marking his second volunteer assignment following his previous work in Kiribati in 2019.

Expressing his experience, Paul stated, "I know I have learned as much from the people as I have imparted in terms of knowledge. 

Signing of Capacity building deal to help industry

Head of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Secretariat, Lucas Alkan, said this during the signing of meeting minutes to begin the ‘Improving Resource Related Revenue Management Project.’

Alkan said the first two reports of the Secretariat for 2013 and 2014 contained significant gaps in fiscal reporting of revenues generated and distributed from the mineral, oil and gas sectors.

He said with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the reporting on revenues from the extractive industry will drastically improve.

Capacity building vital in hazard management

RIMES institutional development specialist Ruby Policarpio said when talking about climate, authorities must not only look at the risks but also the opportunities.

Policarpio said what they’re trying to drive is that the climate and weather effects can be a resource and provide opportunities and not only risks.

She explained that rainfall might be a risk to an area but a resource in another area.

“We would like to drive that kind of perspective.

More Grade 12 leavers need space in Universities

Senior Scholarship Officer Universities Tertiary Admission, Terence Pogo from the Department of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology (DHERST) said this during the Jiwaka provincial Secondary Schools’ in-service program at Minj Secondary School last Friday.

Pogo said there are more secondary schools mushrooming in the country with the number of Grade 12 students increasing each year.

He said the few tertiary institutions in the country are unable to absorb those students in the tertiary institutions.
