The discussions will start in Southern Region on 10th to 11th May, 2021, in Port Moresby followed by Arawa, Goroka, Jiwaka and Madang.

When presenting the cheque to the organizers, BSP SME Centre (Vision City) Branch Manager Susie Yapen said BSP’s continued sponsorship reinforces its drive to support and build Papua New Guinean businesses and to take lead, build respect and explore opportunities in the SME Sector.

Sports facility for St Anne’s

These are the words of the Principal of St Anne’s Primary School, when acknowledging Bank South Pacific Financial Limited during the handover of a newly constructed multi-purpose basket and volleyball courts to the school, in Port Moresby.

Sr Mary said, “The addition of the new multi-purpose courts makes the location the perfect place for our 248 students to get outdoors to participate in recreation, exercise and sports.”

Confidence In Economy

He says this is attributed to recent developments in the resource sector which several major projects.

BSP Group CEO Robin Fleming, says a higher level of confidence in the PNG Economy is expected by the end of 2021.

This follows developments in key resource projects such as the Fiscal Stability Agreement signed between the Government and Total and Joint Venture Partners of the Papua LNG Project, as well as the Environmental Permit awarded to Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture for the mine negotiations to gin on the Wafi-Golpu Mine.

BSP pays respect to late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare

In a statement BSP says it joins the rest of PNG as it mourns the loss of the country’s founding father and first Prime Minister.

 “It is with sadness that we hear of the passing of our Founding Father of the nation, the Late Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare in the early hours of Friday 26th February 2021, at the age of 84, after succumbing to cancer,” said BSP Group CEO Robin Fleming.

Three BSP ATMs damaged over festive period

The Lorengau Hospital ATM is one of four BSP ATMs in Lorengau and the destruction caused is irreparable and will cause great inconvenience to the people of Lorengau.

General Manager Retail, Daniel Faunt, expressed his disappointment that criminals deliberately vandalised and destroyed an ATM without any regard to the impact on people in the area, many of whom would be known to the criminals.

2020 Red Shield Appeal supported

“BSP has had a long association with the Red Shield Appeal  and we would like to continue that and recognise the hard and exceptional work that the Salvation Army does through this support,” said BSP Group Retail General Manager, Paul Thornton.

Thornton donated K30,000 on behalf of BSP on Friday 13th November, to Salvation Army Colonel Garath Niemand during the luncheon of the Red Shield appeal in Port Moresby.

BSP branches recognised for community projects

In announcing this during the recent BSP Leadership Forum and Long Service Awards Night, BSP General Manager – Retail, Paul Thornton, said the Aitape Branch team accomplished a very needed project in the Lumi area where they “revisited the double classroom - installing interior walls, cementing the floors, constructing 20 desks, putting in windows and added a fresh coat of paint”.

Surprise visit by PNG Kumuls star

Mead was pleased to meet with the students and staff of the school to talk about sports and the power of learning through books on October 30th.

He encouraged the children to read, adding that “education and learning through reading contributed to improving their understanding of the world”.

For the teachers and parents who were there to witness the handover, Mead highlighted that it was important they continued to brew the love of books in the youngsters and encourage the ability of reading and comprehension.

Lending rates for standard housing loan reduced

The new rates are 6.5 percent pa and 27 percent pa respectively, and came into effect on 6th May, 2019.

In announcing the reduction, BSP Group General Manager Retail Paul Thornton said the new Standard Housing Loan interest rate of 6.5 percent pa represented a 0.95 percent reduction from the previous rate and is applicable to existing and new borrowers.
