Brisbane Broncos

Cowboys v Broncos: Feldt a late chance; Reynolds, Mam in halves

Not since 2016 will the local Queensland derby have so much hype in the lead-up with North Queensland sitting in third spot on the Telstra Premiership ladder and Brisbane nicely placed in fifth.

With a host of players taking part in Origin II and across the rep weekend, both side's have also benefitted from the bye week and will be fresh ahead of the Queensland derby.

The corresponding clash in round three belonged to the Cowboys in a six tries to two romp at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane have responded since then, winning nine of their past 12 matches.

Storm stop Broncos winning run

Brisbane led 16-6 just before halftime but Kiwis halfback Jahrome Hughes laid on a try for Melbourne halves partner Cameron Munster and then crossed himself to level the scores before the home side took control after the interval.

Hughes scored a second try in a five-star performance ahead of next Saturday's homecoming Test in Auckland against Tonga as the Storm dominated the second term.

Storm v Broncos: Papenhuyzen out; Ribs sideline Reynolds

After winning just seven games last season and three the year before, Brisbane have already chalked up nine wins this year on the back of Adam Reynolds' poise and the power of Pat Carrigan and Payne Haas, but they'll have to make do without their skipper at AAMI Park after he injured his ribs against Canberra.

The Storm were pushed all the way by the Roosters on Saturday but found a way to win even with three players backing up from Origin and Xavier Coates sidelined by an ankle injury.

'Fully committed to you guys': Haas assures teammates

Haas messaged team-mates after Brisbane officials rejected his request for an immediate release to assure them he was fully committed for the clash with the Titans, but fans weren't so forgiving and booed him every time he touched the ball.

The NSW Origin forward admitted after the 35-24 win that he had been rattled by the reception he received and Broncos captain Adam Reynolds later appeared to be consoling him in the dressing rooms.

Broncos go top four after stunning comeback win

Gold Coast dominated the opening 30 minutes and led 24-4 at halftime but capitulated in the second half to concede three tries in six minutes as the Broncos stormed home.

The momentum shift coincided with the loss of halfback Toby Sexton and sin-binning of second-rower Sam McIntyre and centre Esan Marsters just before halftime.

Titans captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui carried the ball for 177 metres from 17 runs in the first half and finished the match with a game high 261 metres from 23 carries, while making 32 tackles, but he had little support.

Broncos v Titans: Mam gets another run; Fifita back on deck

Even without chief playmaker Adam Reynolds the Broncos still got the job done in style in Newcastle to make it five wins on the bounce for the first time since 2017 and they look more like the real deal with each passing week.

Such is the confidence in the squad that Ezra Mam slotted in at halfback in the skipper's absence and did a fine job, the Broncos barely skipping a beat as they piled on six tries.

Payne Haas requests immediate release in huge Broncos bombshell

Haas is signed to the Broncos until the end of 2024 on a deal understood to be worth $800,000 a season.

However, The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Thursday that Haas sensationally asked for an immediate release on Wednesday night.

Broncos overpower Knights to notch fifth-straight win

The Broncos lost Reynolds on Thursday morning to a groin issue and while they weren't at their attacking best without their playmaker early, they repelled Newcastle's attacking raids before shutting the Knights out in the second half.

A contentious try to Selwyn Cobbo in the 67th minute, who singlehandedly tormented the Knights throughout the contest, gave the Broncos an eight-point lead after Newcastle fought their way back to 14-12 in the second half.

Knights v Broncos: Milford to start, Gagai returns; Martin, Haas good to go

Adam O'Brien's men secured a relieving win over the Bulldogs in Magic Round but they face an uphill challenge in the form of the Broncos, who have hit form and are beginning to show signs of the club they once were in the glory years.

It will be an intriguing occasion for Knights recruit Anthony Milford, who is expected to line up against the Broncos after departing the club last season.

Seven heaven: Reynolds runs riot as Broncos maul Manly

The Broncos No.7 laid on two tries for Selwyn Cobbo with pinpoint kicks and scored one of his own as Kevin Walters' men made it four wins on the trot.

Reynolds set the tone for the night when he clean bowled Tom Trbojevic with the kick-off to get the ball back for his team and two minutes later he set up Cobbo for the game's opening try.

The Sea Eagles launched an air raid of their own in the 14th minute when Tom Trbojevic flew high to bring down a Kieran Foran bomb and looked certain to score but desperation defence by Billy Walters denied the superstar fullback.
