Erling Haaland set to join Manchester City after passing medical

The fee is understood to be significantly less than €75m (£64m) that has been widely reported.

The deal is expected to be announced imminently by the German club, Haaland having informed them of his wish to leave after two-and-a-half years. Personal terms between the player and City have been agreed. Haaland will earn a basic salary of around £350,000 a week with considerable bonuses and is poised to sign a five-year contract.

The Jamaican, an all-time athletics legend after winning eight Olympic golds, retired after damaging his hamstring in his last ever race at the World Championships in London last year.

After recovering from that injury, the 31-year-old has reiterated his desire to switch sports, claiming he has held talks with the club's legendary former manager Alex Ferguson over a possible United deal, while his long mooted Dortmund trial is still on the cards.
