Dolphin 'wrapped in clothing' sparks plea in Australia

The Department of Parks and Wildlife said the bottlenose dolphin was spotted off Bunbury, 170km (106 miles) south of Perth, on Australia Day last week.

A member of the public took images of the animal before alerting authorities.

Australian laws prohibit people from interfering with dolphins or whales without approval.

The public has been urged to report any sightings.

The photos appear to show the dolphin "wrapped" with a shirt or singlet vest, the department said.

Australia and New Zealand to pursue 'TPP 12 minus one'

The US-led 12-nation agreement was set to cover 40% of the world's economic output.

Pulling out of the TPP was one of Mr Trump's first executive orders and fulfils a long-held campaign promise.

Australia has already devised a name for a possible new agreement: TPP 12 Minus One.

The country's trade minister Steve Ciobo said Australia would not abandon the TPP just because it would require "a little bit of elbow grease" to keep it alive.

The Australian Muslim MP fighting the trolls

Dr Mehreen Faruqi is an Australian Greens Party MP in the New South Wales Upper House, and a former environmental engineer, who fled an "oppressive regime in Pakistan" in 1992 with her husband and infant son.

But she has found herself facing a grotesque cascade of abuse unleashed by internet trolls.

"There is this real vile mix of racism and sexism that is happening within Australia from certain people who don't believe I belong to this country, maybe because of my colour or the religion that I belong to. That is pretty upsetting," Dr Faruqi told the BBC in Sydney.

Man killed by crocodile in Australia's Northern Territory

The man, 47, was wading across Cahill's Crossing near Kakadu National Park when he was taken by the 3.3m (11ft) reptile, police said.

Two women made it across the river before realising the man was missing.

His body was found 2km (1.2 miles) downstream on Thursday night, police said. The crocodile was shot and killed.

Local media reported he was from a nearby remote community.

Japanese ship caught with slaughtered whale in Australian waters - Sea Shepherd

A Sea Shepherd helicopter spotted the vessel yesterday, with two harpoon ships nearby.

"They're hit with an explosive harpoon that goes straight into their body, hooks come out and shrapnel is sent through their body, it's a terrible bloody death … these whales can take up to 30 or 40 minutes to die," Jeff Hansen from Sea Shepherd said.

The marine conservation group said the Japanese crew quickly covered the whale with a tarpaulin.

Australia beats Pakistan by 92 runs at the Gabba in first ODI

A maiden ODI century from Matthew Wade helped the home side reach 9-268 from the full 50 overs, and Pakistan was dismissed for 176 with 7.2 overs to spare.

On a fiercely hot day in Brisbane, Australian debutant paceman Billy Stanlake went off with heat stress early in the Pakistan innings, while opener Azhar Ali picked up a hamstring injury running between wickets and was eventually forced to retire hurt on 12, shortly after Sharjeel Khan was dismissed for 18.

Stanlake returned later, but only bowled three overs for 13.
