Hunters suffer first defeat this season

Hunters went down to Norths Devils 32-18 in round four of the Queensland Intrust Cup in front of 5148 supporters at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Two tries from Bland Abavu and one try from captain Ase Boas were not enough to take the Hunters home.

Devils dominated the game scoring four tries and converting four penalty kicks.

The visitors scored through Matiu Love-Henry, Javarn White, Dalton Philips and Delouise Hoeter.

Boas believes Hunters can go one step further

After making the top six last season, the Hunters were knocked out in the first week of the finals after losing 18-12 to the Sunshine Coast Falcons at the National Football Stadium.

“I didn’t expect to be named the captain for this season. But as one of the senior players in the team, it will be an honor.

“Thank you to the coach and management for your trust in me. I may be the captain but everyone in the team is a leader by their own rights.

Ase Boas to lead team against Blackhawks tomorrow

With Hunters sitting on the third spot with 32 points and Blackhawks on fourth with 31, the round 23 clash will see a decider to find the team that will finish third on the ladder after the end of the regular season.

With co-captain Noel Zeming still out of the team and captain Adam Korave yet to be rated a good chance to play because of a knee injury picked up in the previous match against Jets, Boas was  named to lead the team for tomorrow’s game.

Boas: More career awareness needed national athletes

After attending an Athlete Career Education course this week, Boas strongly recommends the course be pumped out to national athletes in other codes as well in the country.

The course was co-hosted by High Performance – PNG Sports Foundation, Cricket PNG and International Cricket Council,

“This is a very good course and would have been great if all other national athletes from other codes attended.

“Like most of us playing at the national level, we are bound to lose our form one day.
