Aitape ventures into reforestation

The developer will adopt selective harvesting technique of timber of larger DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) of 50+ cm as well as adhere to all other practices set out in the Logging Code of Practice.

This follows an agreement by PNG Forest Authority with PNG Hills Ltd to establish 800,000 hectares of plantation forest by 2050.

New classroom for Lumi primary

Lumi Primary School chairman, Greg Ouke, said this when thanking Bank South Pacific who handed over the infrastructure recently.

Ouke also said the new classroom will allow for effective learning to take place.

The classroom was handed over by BSP Aitape branch manager, Alex Wafimbi, following a 10-month construction involving a local contractor and BSP Staff.

He said the project was a team building exercise and to promote their values of community, teamwork, leadership and people.

Man gets 3 years for forging ex-wife’s signature

That prison term can be suspended if George Steven of Ali island, Aitape, West Sepik, facilitates the return of the said property at PTC housing estate at Waigani, to his former wife, Ekson Aquila.

He will also avoid custodial sentence if he repays K30,000 within 12 months from today to the man who purchased the property from him in 2000.

He is also to keep good behaviour for the next two years.

These terms were given to him in court yesterday if he wants the court to suspend that sentence of three years in prison. He has 12 months to do so.

Global game Futsal comes to Aitape

Aitape is in Sandaun Province and is connected by  a 177.4 km stretch of highway to Wewak, the East Sepik capital.  

Futsal is a modified form of soccer played with five players per side on a smaller pitch.

ESFA president Clearance Hukahu said a one day clinic will be held this Wednesday, followed by a trial competition which will see 12 men’s and 6 women’s teams starting their inaugural competition.

He said  that the ESFA assistance followed a request from Aitape sports officers after their participation in the East Sepik grassroots games two months ago.
