K79m for airport fencing and upgrade

Two local companies were among four firms that signed a contract with the National Airports Corporation in Port Moresby on August 24th.

The four companies signed contracts with the National Airports Corporation, under its Civil Aviation Development Infrastructure Program (CADIP) to fence the Kiunga, Kerema and Tari airports and also upgrade the Tari terminal building, aircraft runway and other associated works.

Governor calls for reopening of Tari airport

Undialu said the Tari airport has made a lot of money for NAC during the PNG LNG Project construction and should not be punished for an incident that they are not responsible for, with respect to the Mendi incident.

Governor Undialu in a statement said for almost three months since the closure of Tari airport, the people of Hela have suffered and have risked their safety by travelling on the highway to Mt Hagen, just to get on a plane.

A team led by former BRA planner Ben Kamda returned and had an interview with Loop PNG that anytime now the airport will be upgraded.

“Nissan has been the gateway to the atolls of Bougainville and being the gateway means we need to open the airport so that other atoll Islanders can come by ship get a plane and go out of Bougainville,” he said.

K120m reworked airport gets PM’s blessing

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill defended the Jacksons Airport expenditure of K120 million, saying he knew there was a minority of critics who claimed too much was being spent on the national capital.

He said there were plans to upgrade airport facilities around the country, to continue the plan to make PNG a modern destination and to create many more jobs for Papua New Guineans.

He highlighted planned improvements for Nadzab Airport, Mt Hagen and Hoskins, among others.

Invited guests were shown through a modern new terminal with up to date facilities.
