2019 Trukai Fun Run

2019 fun run ends on high note

In Port Moresby, as anticipated, thousands turned up for the family-oriented event at Ela Beach with no major mishap reported.

Residents arrived at the Paga Ring Road as early as 4am for the 6.30am start.

A sea of yellow snaked its way from the road adjacent to the APEC House all the way down to the end of Ela Beach Road as well as up Musgrave St.

The disciplined forces of PNG Defence Force, Police and Correctional Services made sure their presence was felt as they maintained control from start to finish.

Fun run set to be bigger, safer

Last year an estimated 80,000 participants took part in the Fun Run and it is expected that more people will participate this year.

Unlike previous years where Team PNG’s largest fundraising event was hosted in 21 centres, this time only the seven centres of Port Moresby, Lae, Kokopo, Ramu, Alotau, Madang and Goroka will host the event.

Trukai’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Ancilla Wrakuale, says this is to ensure the fun run is more manageable.

Ready, set, go!

The seven centres confirmed to host the Trukai Fun Run are Port Moresby, Lae, Alotau, Ramu, Madang, Goroka and Kokopo. Last year an estimated 80,000 participants took part in the Fun Run and it is expected that more people will participate this year.

This year’s route for Port Moresby has moved from Sir John Guise Stadium to the Paga Ring Road at Ela Beach. The Fun Run starts at 6.30am from the Paga Ring road adjacent to the APEC House, past Harbour side down to the Puma Service Station roundabout and heads back the same route to the finishing at the Paga Ring road.

Over 60,000 fun run t-shirts sold at auctions

This follows separate auctions held in Lae and Port Moresby on the 6th and 7th of March respectively.

Team PNG’s largest fundraising event, the Trukai Fun Run, kicked off this week with t-shirt auctions.

The event was made extra special with the presence of rugby league great, Johnathan Thurston, and former Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys, Brent Tate.

Of the 100,000 Trukai Fun Run t-shirts, 61,200 have so far been sold to bidders at K10 each.

The remaining will be sold to the public at K15 per t-shirt.

2019 Trukai Fun Run launched

In 1999, Trukai Industries painted the streets of Port Moresby, Lae and other participating centres with their signature bright yellow-coloured t-shirts.

The 2019 nationwide Trukai Fun Run was launched today in Port Moresby.

100,000 t-shirts will be available for the fun run, which is set for June 16th.
