ESP polling update: 45 teams done, 98 to go

Provincial Election Manager Kila Ralai told Loop PNG this morning that 45 teams have completed polling since it started 9 days ago.

The 14 days of election polling will end this Saturday, and counting to declare MPs for the 10th Parliament will start the next day. 

Ralai said polling throughout the province is on schedule to be completed by the end of this week.

He commended the people of East Sepik for a peaceful voting so far and appealed for continuation in the remaining days.

Gamato denies foul play

Gamato was referring to the money found in the possession of the NCD election manager, Terence Hetinu, during a search by police at a polling location.

Police searched the NCD election manager’s vehicle after he was apprehended and taken to the Boroko Police Station.

Gamato denied the claims and suspicions, stating that he was aware of the large sum of money transported by the Election Manager.

He clarified that the funds were received earlier this morning and the election manager was in possession of it to deliver to polling officials.

One day polling will not work: Parkop

Parkop who is the Social Democratic Party leader expressed disappointment in the Electoral Commission’s decision to conduct one day polling in some provinces in the country.

He said it will not work considering the logistics involved in transporting ballot boxes and other important election equipment and materials to designated polling sites throughout the country.

The full strength squad will come under the command of PPC EHP Superintendent Alex NDrasal during this period. 
Mobile Squad 13 comes under the Lae Metropolitan Police Command when it is not deployed out of the City.

400 security personnel for boarder operations

The boarder security operations will comprise of members from the Royal PNG Constabulary, Correctional services and PNGDF personnel.

East Sepik Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Peter Philip said some members from a unit of the mobile squad in Port Moresby will also be sent to the province.

The launch of the operations will take place next Friday.

“I have 86 Police officers who will be coming from outside East Sepik,” PPC Philip said.

“The Mobile squard from Port Moresby will be split to support West Sepik and Western provinces,” he added.

Take PNG through elections

Chief Secretary, Isaac Lupari launched the commands of police, defence and CS officers who will be deployed throughout the Highlands region.

Commissioner for Police, Gari Baki when speaking to the 2000 plus officers posed a challenge and told them to take PNG through the Elections.

"This is a challenge that everyone of us will face."

Baki says it is a daunting task considering that there are a lot of issues that are affecting the security preparations leading up to the polling.

In spite of that one Internal Organization in partnership with PNG Electoral Commission and Caritas PNG took up the initiative by conducting election awareness workshops.
