World cup trophy in NCD

The Paul Barrière Trophy started its tour of the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

The ultimate prize in international rugby was welcomed at Kaugere by Member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko, together with local rugby league club representatives, students and the public.

Tkatchenko thanked Oil Search for the great initiative in bringing the Trophy down to the grass roots level, and also commended the government and all stakeholders that were involved in bringing the Rugby League World Cup 2017 to PNG.

Oil Search general manager stakeholder engagement, Leon Buskens, thanked the people of Moresby South and the National Capital District for welcoming the Trophy.

He said Oil Search was pleased to be bringing the internationally contested Trophy right down to the grassroots level and connect them with the Rugby League World Cup.

Following the launch, the Trophy was then driven to Vabukori and Pari, where the villagers were given an opportunity to see the Trophy.
