Vipers defeat Lahanis in close encounter

Port Moresby Vipers have added another two points to their already 12 points on the Digicel Cup 2018 competition ladder.

Yesterday they defeated the Bintangor Goroka Lahanis at the Oil Search National Football Stadium, 14 points to 10.

It was neck and neck through-out the first half of the game until Larsen Marabe scored the first for the 3rd-placed Vipers, just a couple of minutes before the half-time whistle. Benton Leme met Marabe halfway with a conversion.

Back into second half, the attacks and defense from both sides intensified, but not without a lot of ball handling errors as a fifth-placed Lahanis fought tooth and nail to get one over.

Vipers, noticing the pressure coming from their opponents, increased their attacking strengths but succumbed to more dropped balls.

The Lahanis took advantage of this with their first try from Amos Kafare.

It was an unconverted try, but a penalty in the 57th minute to the Lahanis equalised the game 6 all.

However, Vipers showed the visitors they were a team to be reckoned with.

They push past the Lahanis’ defense when Gary Pep went in for the Vipers’ second try, putting them 10 ahead of Lahanis.

Vipers sought after another try in Kerry Pep, who put it just in the right corner of the Lahanis tryline…and Brendon Gotuno brought the Vipers to 14.

The Lahanis never backed down, going in for their second through Charlie Buka in the 78th minute.

It was 14 – 10 in favour of the Vipers when the final whistle went off.
