Vikings pay tribute to Ottio ahead of tonight’s game

The Widnes Vikings stand in sorrow today with the rest of the mourning relatives, colleagues, fans and friends of the late Kato Ottio.

The Late Ottio will be laid to rest at his mother’s village, Tatana, after a funeral mass set to take place this morning.

The team’s dressing room, ahead of this evening’s fixture, pays tribute to the young rising star.

Loop PNG has been told that tonight’s game will begin with a minute’s silence for Ottio. This will be the first of a series of tributes that they will be paying to their fallen teammate.

James Rule, the club’s chief executive in an initial statement paid homage to Ottio stating that Widnes Vikings is a great club with a proud heritage, adding that Ottio will always have a permanent place in the club’s history.

For tonight, every Vikings player and coach will take to the field to stand in respect of his memory and come together to remember him.

Widnes and Port Moresby are 9,000 miles apart, but together at this time, Ottio’s memory will live on and both communities will forever be linked.
