Venues to be subleased to sports federations

Five developed sporting venues are yet to be subleased to respective sports federations.

This was confirmed by the PNG Sports Foundation CEO, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, yesterday during the subleasing agreement of the hockey pavilion to the PNG Hockey Federation at the Sir John Guise stadium.

Tsiamalili said close to five venues are yet to be subleased, including Bisini soccer venues, Bisini softball grounds, netball complex and athletics, which involves track and field venues in Port Moresby and in Lae as well.

“For athletics, the lease structure will be a bit tricky as the venues will be leased separately, which for Port Moresby will be at the Sir John Guise stadium and in Lae will at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium.

“That will allow them to use both facilities,” Tsiamalili said.

He added that the biggest challenge in leasing the venues is to maintain what the government has created.

“We are fortunate to have the upskilled personnel that looked after the venues through the National Sports Trust Limited (NSTL), established under PNG Sports Foundation, to administer the sporting venues,” he said.

Tsiamalili also urged the respective federations to be responsible and follow the criteria, as agreed on the lease, to maintain the good standard of facilities.
