Vala takes a wicket in loss to City Kaitak

Hebou PNG Barramundis’ captain, Assad Vala, made nine runs and took a wicket for the Galaxy Gladiators Lantau in their six wicket loss to City Kaitak.

This was during the fourth match of the Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz yesterday.

The Gladiators batted first and finished at 9/155. Batting at number four, Vala only managed nine runs before being dismissed by Rayad Emrit.

Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara top scored for the Gladiators with 42 runs.

City Kaitak made light work of the run chase scoring at 10.30 runs an over to reach the target in 15.2 overs.

But Vala certainly made his presence felt on the field, taking the wicket of Aizaz Khan followed by a catch off the bowling of Anshuman Rath to dismiss Nicholas Pooran.

Vala, from Alukuni in the Central Province, has become the first Papua New Guinean cricketer to be selected to play in a professional cricket competition in the world.
