Spiders crowned Snax 9s champions

Lae Biscuit Spiders has defeated the Blue Heelers 28-10 to win the Snax 9s rugby league challenge at the Lae Rugby League Oval over the weekend.

Blue Heelers, a dark horse in the competition, came from behind to eventually enter the finals, only to be defeated by a determined side by 18 points.

However, their efforts were not wasted. They collected K4,000 as the runner-up while the premiers pocketed K6,000.

Heelers manager Wilsen Tapi was impressed with his players, claiming that the team was formed during the week before the games commenced over the weekend.

"We were able to put a team up for this competition and happy we have made into the finals and bow out as the runner ups," Tapi said.

The off season competition is sponsored by Lae Snax Tigers, scouting young and talented players to be groomed into the Tigers camp for the next semester.

The Tigers have just completed the Highlands scouting at Mount Hagen after the New Guinea Islands at Kimbe recently.

Tigers premiership coach Stanley Tepend was impressed with the weekend games and penciled a few names during the three days of competition.

A final list will be drawn before the team goes into camp.
