Spain go to top in Group B

Spain have paved the way to the top in Group B of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup points ladder after edging Japan 1-0 at Bava Park yesterday.

Spain kicked off the rivalry by scoring 5-0 against Canada in their opening match last Sunday and completed the second victory in game 11 yesterday against Japan to climb to the top.

Both teams were leveled at 3 points each before last night’s game when Spain toppled Japan to take the lead by 3 points.

So with the four teams in Group B, Spain currently takes the lead with 6 points while Japan is tailing on 3.

Nigeria’s rebound win against Canada yesterday after going down against Japan in the opening match also gave them the opportunity to climb into third spot with 3 points but trail behind Japan on goal average.

This coming Sunday will be a moment of truth for Nigeria and Japan to find the team that will make it to the quarter finals.

Nigeria will take on group leader Spain while Japan will need to return to winning ways against Canada to book their place for the finals.
