RLWC2017 thanks PNG Govt

The Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017) Organising Committee (OC) has thanked the Papua New Guinea Government for its support of the tournament.

The RLWC2017 is scheduled from October 26-December 2 and will be co-hosted by Australia, New Zealand and PNG.

PNG will host national team Kumuls’ three pool matches at the National Football Stadium (NFS) against Wales (October 28), Ireland (November 5) and the USA (November 12).

RLWC2017 general manager commercial and marketing, Rohan Sawyer, said it’s an exciting year for rugby league in PNG.

Sawyer thanked the Government and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko for their support of RLWC2017.

He also thanked the city of Port Moresby for its support, not only in the event but in hosting the tournament.

Sawyer said: “We’re bringing the RLWC here, which will no doubt be the biggest event in PNG.

“FIFA matches recently hosted at NFS show the quality of venue and the events that can be staged there.

“As the OC, we see that it is truly a world class facility and one of the best facilities that we have seen on a new scale purposely built for rugby league.

“And not only are we excited to bring the World Cup here to the venue, we are actually excited to bring the world and teams to PNG.”

The ticket prices and on sale details for the three RLWC2017 pool matches to be played in Port Moresby will be announced in due course.
