Pulabe Rugby 9s attracts youths

A young community leader is doing his part to create an avenue for youth to develop their rugby skills and stay of trouble using sports.

Julius Amon organized a two day Rugby 9s tournament which started on December 29th and ended December 30th.

Held at Galilo village in the Hoskins LLG area of Talasea district in Kimbe, West New Britain Province, villagers from Lavege, Rikau, Vavua, Galilo and Karapi participated in the tournament which aimed to showcase the talents from youths and keep them busy during the festive period.

Amon said the main purpose of setting up the tournament was to keep the youths away from involving in law and order issues and also to reduce the consumption of alcohol especially homebrew.

The tournament show cased talents like Bob Wilson who was once played with the Enga Mioks and Kimbe Rebels and Gibson David who is a current Kimbe Rebels player and part of the recent PNG Games Rugby 7s gold winners.

Also present were Under 15 Kumuls representatives, Samuel and Mathies Wesley, along with former Rabaul Gurias winger, Terence Tausulu, and Kimbe Rebels captain, Hendry Bobore .

Meantime, Amon explained that the tournament will be an annual event but appealed for support from relevant authorities. 

He said the tournament is also aimed to recruit players and register a team with the PNGRFL.
