PNG won through defensive play: Nami

Though they let themselves down in the early minutes of the game, the PNG Under 23 Residents managed to find their footing and secure a win.

The PNG team’s assistant coach, Glen Nami, said this after the inaugural match against the New South Wales Country League on Sunday.

It was a slow start riddled with errors for the PNG team as they took on the New South Wales Country Under 23 boys.

PNG’s assistant coach Glen Nami attributed their win to good defensive play.

“The boys I think they were a bit overexcited. They couldn’t control the sets that’s why we let the New South Wales side in but in the end we regrouped and tightened up on our defense.

“The message was to complete the sets and keep the game in our territory. And keeping the game in our territory, that was what worked for us.”

Meantime, the NSW coach, Josh Cale, admitted that ball handling errors let his team down.
