PNG weightlifters currently top Commonwealth rankings

Three Papua New Guinea weightlifters currently top the Commonwealth rankings following their performance at the recent Australian International Open in Melbourne.

They all reached results which place them currently first in the ranking list.

Sisters Thelma and Dika Toua now rank first in the Commonwealth in the 48kg category and 53kg category respectively.

Morea Baru is also ranked first in the Commonwealth in the 62kg category.

Another weightlifter Toua Udia is currently placed fourth in the Commonwealth rankings in the 77kg category.

Oceania coach Paul Coffa indicated that even though three out of the four lifters won their categories, they have so much more to spare and are yet to put up their best performance.

The four lifters along with Steven Kari and Lorraine Harry are currently based at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia.

They all aim to qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Commonwealth and Oceania Championships on the Gold Coast from September 4-9.

Kari and Harry will aim to top their categories at this Commonwealth and Oceania Championships.

Dika and Kari are aiming to win back to back gold for PNG in the women’s 53kg category and men’s 94 kg category respectively.
