PNG defeated in first OFC U16 match

The OFC Under 16 Championship started yesterday afternoon in the Solomon Islands.

The PNG boys started off their campaign with a defeat against the hosts in Group A.

The host team took control of the game at the Lawson Tama Stadium at Honiara as soon as the starting whistle blew.

12 minutes into the second match of the day and Solomon Islands’ Raphael Le’ai slotted one in for his team off the gloves of the PNG keeper.

The hosts’ attackers kept bombarding the PNG goalmouth, pressuring the defenders until an offence was committed.

A direct penalty was awarded to SI, who wasted no time in extending their lead by 2 points.

It was downhill for the PNG boys as they were outmatched in speed and defensive strategies.

SI claimed a 5-0 victory over PNG at the final whistle.

Group A consists of PNG, SI, Vanuatu and New Zealand.

The 18th edition of the Oceania Football Confederation U16 championship will end on September 22nd.
