No warm-up fights for Hughie

Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker has received a boost ahead of September's WBO world title fight against Hughie Fury.

Englishman Fury has been barred from taking part in an official fight before their September 23 bout in Manchester.

WBO rules specify that once a mandatory challenger signs to challenge the champion, they cannot fight before their title shot.

"The WBO, once you're a mandatory, you're not allowed to have a fight before your title shot, otherwise you'll lose your position. He's got some cobwebs to blow off, so he'll be in an exhibition," promoter Frank Warren told Boxing News.

Hughie, cousin of former division leader Tyson Fury, was set to line up in a warm-up fight on Sunday (NZ Time), but is no longer able to have an officially sanctioned bout. He will still box, but it will not be an official fight and will not count on his record.

Parker and trainer Kevin Barry will be ringside in East London for the Sunday fight.

Fury is set to fight in Blackpool on July 15, but it is unclear whether that will be an exhibition or if he will be pulled from the event.

The 22-year-old is unbeaten in 20 fights in his professional career with 10 coming by knockout and 10 by decision.

Hughie hasn't boxed since defeating Cameroon's Fred Kassi in April of last year. His break has been because of health problems and a suspension from UKAD (UK Anti-Doping), though Fury maintains his innocence against allegations of a failed drug test.

Fury was due to fight Parker in New Zealand, but their fight was postponed when the Brit suffered a back injury, from which he has recovered.
