Mead: I have a rib cartilage injury

Brisbane Broncos flyer David Mead says the reason why he wasn’t named in the PNG LNG Kumuls side for this Saturday’s Pacific Test is because of a rib cartilage injury which ruled him out.

Mead, who is currently in Port Moresby told Loop PNG said he was obviously disappointed to be missing out on playing this weekend.

“I have a rib cartilage injury and I’ve been playing with it since the Roosters game. I’ve been getting a needle every game and it’s pretty painful the next morning when I wake up and during the week at training. It’s affecting my training.

“I spoke to Wayne and he told me to make sure to get my body right, have the weekend off to rest up well and come ready to train next week.

“I’ll be returning to Australia on Wednesday and this weekend will be on the couch cheering for the Kumuls,” said Mead.

In another blow for PNG, St George Illawarra Dragons winger Nene Macdonald has withdrawn from the Kumuls side due an injury from last weekend’s 34-22 loss to the Melbourne Storm.

The Kumuls will take on the Cook Islands this Saturday at 3.15pm at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in Sydney, Australia.
