Marum pleased with performance

The coach of the PNG LNG Kumuls says he was pleased with his side’s performance against Fiji Bati and the Australian Kangaroos.

Speaking on arrival at Jackson’s airport today, Michael Marum said the focus was on testing out the different combinations in preparation for the Rugby League World Cup 2017.

“It was a really good game against Fiji and Australia. We basically now have a fair idea of which players will be starting for game one (against Wales on October 28) next weekend.

“We were mainly looking at the combinations. We had a lot of changes which allowed us to trial out players in different positions,” he said.

“Some of the boys played in two to three different positions, which was what we were looking for.

“I was really impressed with our defence, especially against the Kangaroos. But we still have a lot of work to do.”

He said Lachlan Lam standing in for Ase Boas was outstanding and will only get better.

On the injury front, the main concern for the Kumuls is on vice-captain and five-eighth, Ase Boas, who didn’t play in the second forty minutes of the tri-contest on Saturday night.

“He’s going to have a scan this afternoon and hopefully, it will be good news for us,” said Marum.

Marum added James Segeyaro was the only player in the team who didn’t take the field on the weekend after being ruled out with injury.
