Madang win Besta FA Cup

The Madang Soccer Association were crowned men’s champions in the Besta FA Cup Challenge over the weekend after beating Port Moresby Soccer Association 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

The grand final in Lae finished at nil all in regular time, forcing the match going into extra time.

With the score still unchanged, it went down to a penalty shootout with a brilliant save from Madang’s keeper, Gewa Mikes, followed by the winning goal from skipper, Max Sengum proving the difference.

Madang walked away with K20, 000 in prize money, while PMSA settled for K15, 000.

Finishing third, Morobe Football Association took home K10, 000 and Hoods pocketed K5, 000.

In the women’s division, Morobe Football Association defeated Port Moresby Soccer Association 2-1 in the grand final to become women’s champions for 2017, and become K20, 000 richer.

PMSA won K15, 000 while Simbu collected K10, 000 for finishing third.
