The King: Keep your dreams alive

‘Keep your dreams alive’ were the words of advice to all athletes from rugby league legend ‘The King' Wally Lewis at last night’s SP Sports Awards.

The guest speaker at the event, Lewis encouraged athletes to always work hard in their careers and to never give up.

Universally recognised as ‘The King’, Lewis played 31 State of Origin matches and a decade-long Test career spanning 34 matches.

“Plan what you want to do. Everyone wants to get to the top, don’t be disappointed if you don’t make it straight away.

“Also, plan some alternatives. If things don’t work out, there must be a second option.

“People often get very disappointed when they don’t make it instantly, but it doesn’t happen for everybody. Just go along steadily and continue. Never ever give up, that’s the worst thing you can do.

“Keep your dreams alive and it will happen one day,” said Lewis.

He finished by congratulating the winners, saying the Awards were a way to offer recognition for the wonderful work the country’s athletes and officials have been doing for the country.

“I remember what it was like when I was a young footballer dreaming of making it in the big time.

“These athletes carry the hopes of the people of PNG at every international event. It’s something that they love doing and never ever get tired of. Congratulations,” said Lewis.
