K100,000 for WNB rugby team

A K100,000 cheque was presented to the West New Britain Rugby League franchise team board during the weekend by Governor Sasindran Muthuvel.

The governor was happy for the provincial government to throw support towards the franchise team board as it makes preparation for its bid to field in a provincial team for the Digicel Cup competition.

The presentation was made at the Kimbe Rugby League ground in the presence of the board members, Kimbe Rugby League Association executives, teams and the public.

Muthuvel, delivering a short speech, says this is a very good initiative to have a team in a bigger competition given the province’s capacity in good sporting facilities it now has.

The governor says the power of choice lies with each individual athlete, whether to choose to become a good sporting citizen or otherwise.

He has encouraged players to participate fully in games for this may be a door opener to represent the country like the province’s super hero, Marcus Bai.

Thanking the governor for this financial support, board member Jeffrey Osa said this demonstrates inspirational plans and programs the provincial government has to embrace people’s desires to effectively participate in sports.

The K100,000 as seed capital for preparation shows the government’s commitment to bring WNB to a higher level in the sporting arena and by also building one of the best sporting facilities in the country, he said.

Assurance has been given by the board to provide financial reports to the provincial government as required under the Financial Management Act.
