K10,000 for Pom Racquets Club

Bank South Pacific (BSP) is serving up K10,000 in sponsorship for the 2019 POM Squash and Tennis Open, to be hosted by the PNG Port Moresby Racquets Club.

The event will be held on the 7th to 10th June, 2019.

A total of 160 athletes participated in last year’s tournament and more are expected to participate in both disciplines at this year’s event with players flying in from two major centres in PNG – which is Lae and Mount Hagen – and also from North Queensland, Australia.

Port Moresby Racquet Club representative and Squash Director, Merlyn Alarcos-Kriebisch thanked BSP for its support and said registration is still open to interested participants.

“We encourage registrations to come through. It will also be a fun weekend and if you don't play, come down and watch some great matches and support your local and upcoming PNG representatives who will be travelling to Samoa for the Pacific Games,” Alarcos-Kriebisch encouraged.

BSP’s sponsorship and events coordinator, Amelia Minnopu, presented the cheque on behalf of the bank and said: “Bank South Pacific is happy to support the Port Moresby Squash and Tennis Open recognising sports, promoting local talents and hosting visitors from all over PNG and neighbouring countries.

“The bank believes that the partnership with Port Moresby Racquets Club will develop upcoming squash and tennis players through national tournaments such as this and we look forward and are excited to witness players from this tournament maintaining or exceeding their current rankings.

“BSP is proud to be a good corporate leader in business, team players in sports whilst at the same time being competitive. And in saying that, I wish the organisers and the athletes all the best in this tournament.”
