Isou beat Lahanis

The Gulf Isou had to grind it out to beat 2019 Premiers, Bintangor Goroka Lahanis, 12 - 10 in a tightly fought match at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby today.

The Lahanis were the first to score in the 10th minute when winger Alma Woro snuck through the left edge for a 4 – 0 lead.

The Isou took penalty kick to reduce the deficit by two.

It wasn’t until the 39th minute when five-eighth, Yunny Patrick, found an unmarked Josh Ericho to score for 6 – 4 lead going into halftime.

In the 55th minute, Isou halfback, Jason Maima, accelerated and sped 70 metres to extend the Isou lead to 12 – 4.

Ten minutes later the Lahanis made the most of an Isou handling error in their red zone with halfback, Josh Karara, scoring to reduce the Isou lead by two.

Handling errors by the Isou almost invited the Lahanis back but the Isou held to keep their record for 2019 at two from two.

The Isou have now beaten both grand finalists from 2018 after downing the Enga Mioks last week.
