Broncos marquee signing Adam Reynolds says he is ready for the challenge that comes with the club’s No.7 jersey – and can’t wait to run out for the famous Brisbane club.
The goalkicking halfback with 231 NRL appearances to his name donned the Broncos jersey for the first time as he tried on the 2022 ASICS home playing strip at Suncorp Stadium, complete with brand new Kia Australia logo.
“Coming up here to Brisbane, it’s a challenge and I’m looking forward to it,” Reynolds told broncos.com.au.
“I’ve heard a lot about the pressures and the outside influences but as long as your focus is within the team then that’s all that really matters."
"I think that pressure is privilege. It’s certainly a good thing to have, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve played under a fair bit of pressure my whole career and I thoroughly enjoy it."
“This Broncos team is an exciting young group of men – we’ve got a lot of steel, a lot of talent and it’s probably just the finer things that can be worked on and we’ll do that during the preseason.
”I’m genuinely excited to work with this bunch of boys and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them all in the time ahead.”
Reynolds joins the Broncos having played a Grand Final on Suncorp Stadium last month, leading the Rabbitohs to a narrow loss to the Panthers. He finished 2021 as the NRL’s second-top point-scorer last season with 260 points.
Across a decade in First Grade, the 31-year-old has amassed 1,896 points including 860 goals, as well as making two State of Origin appearances for New South Wales in 2016.
But Reynolds is now very much settled in Brisbane, having purchased a home with his family, and is looking forward to getting to know the Olympic City and Broncos members and fans over the coming years, as well as serving as a leader at the Broncos.
“It’s a new challenge for me – it would have been easy for me to stay where I was but I like a challenge, I like getting out of my comfort zone and doing something different,” he said.
“In recent years, there was an opportunity for me to move into a leadership role and I’ve loved every minute of it – it can be challenging at times but also very rewarding. You get to see the players around you grow and get better and I like spending times with other players and trying to improve them.
“Obviously experience is handy to have at this stage of my career and I tend to think that I lead through my actions and challenging others to improve.
“I’m really excited, I’ve had a load of support already whether it be through social media or walking down the street I definitely feel the love and I just can’t wait to get out and play for the Broncos.
“I’ve been booed most times I’ve run out here (at Suncorp Stadium) – it’s a fantastic place to play, the atmosphere is second to none and I’m glad to be calling it home and wearing the jersey.”
Reynolds also provided an update on his shoulder injury sustained in the Grand Final.
“I hurt the shoulder a bit there in the Grand Final but it wasn’t too bad and I didn’t need surgery, which is a big plus – I’ve got a bit of treatment and I’ll work on my body over the offseason, so when I get back to training, I’ll be ready to go.”
