Hunters lose at home

Controversial calls also contributed to the SP Hunters’ 20-12 loss at home today against the Souths Logan Magpies, according to coach Michael Marum.

It started out differently with newly appointed fullback Edene Gabbie dashing 80 metres to score and put the home side in front the first four minutes.

With Ase Boas converting, the Hunters were out to a 6-0 lead.

But the tourists responded not long after from a kick that found the hands of Marion Seve.

With the conversion successful, it was 6-6.

The Hunters muscled their way back to regain the lead through Willie Minoga, who barged through for a four-pointer.

Ase simply added the extras with ease.

The Hunters’ defence was broken again in the last 10 minutes when Sam Scarlett crossed.

With the extra two points from Guy Hamilton, this allowed a 12-12 scoreline going into the break.

Hamilton booted a penalty conversion in the 62nd minute to push his side in front by a try.

The controversy came in the 74th minute when the Hunters pounced on a loose ball to scoot off to score under the posts.

But this was overturned by referee Michael Gordon.

The win was then sealed in the 75th with a Jordan Scott try to grant the Magpies the win.

For the Hunters, their quest to defend their premiership has gotten off to the worst possible start with five losses (including one loss at home).

From seven games this season, the Hunters have only won two.

"There were unfair decisions from the referee. I hope they get them right from now on going forward.

"But we also contributed to today's loss," admitted coach Marum.
