Hekari players come out clear on their stand

Captain of Hekari United FC, David Muta has come out clear as to why he and the eight other Hekari players choose not to attend the training camp with the PNG Kapuls for next month’s Oceania section of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

In a press conference yesterday in Port Moresby, Muta put it simply that the exodus of the nine Hekari players was to show their grievances over the current administration of football in the country.

“I want to make it clear that we didn’t step down from the national team because our sponsors John and Vonnie Kapi Natto told us to.

“We stepped down because we the players see that something really big is not right in the PNG Football Association (PNGFA).

“Why we stepped down is because of politics. The recently held PNGFA congress was not a fair one. It was one sided.

“We still want to play for the national team. This is our country, this is our pride.

“But if they still want us to play for the Kapuls, they must come down and uplift the suspensions on the suspended associations and have the PNGFA congress again.

“If David Chung or John Kapi Natto wins the congress, that’s fine, but as long as it’s done in a fair way.

“We think that we are standing up for the right thing, for the players now and for the future players of PNG,” said Muta.
