Gulf Isou to meet with players

A meeting between Management and Players of the Gulf Isou Digicel Cup team will be held today to address issues raised by a faction of the players over the clubs pay structure.

CEO of the Gulf Province Sports Trust (GPST), Lawrence Lahari, informed this newsroom that 18 Players from the Gulf Isou 25 - man team had been released following an ultimatum made by a faction of the players.

However, Laharai said as per PNG National Rugby League requirements they are not able to register new players after Round (6) and will now speak to the players individually.

On Friday the GPST through Lahari announced the immediate release of the players over the issuing of the ultimatum which the GPST said did not follow due process and was raised before the eve of a competition match.

Lahari said in a statement that this has brought disharmony around the team and brining disrepute towards the game.

Due to requirements of the PNG NRL new players could not be added to the Gulf Isou roster and a few of the release players were recalled.

He added that they will retain 60 – 70 % of the players for the remainder of the season which they hope to end on a high.

On Saturday the Gulf Isou were thrashed by the Agmrak Rabaul Gurias.

The Gurias, with the added experience of Hunters Wartovo Puara Junior, Dilbert Isaac, and Ila Alu, the Gurais looked more faster and physical as they thumped the Isou 54 – 4 at the National Football Stadium  in Port Moresby.
