Fun run set to be bigger, safer

The Trukai Fun Run, set to kick off on Sunday, the 16th of June at seven locations around PNG, not only promises to be bigger and better, but also safer.

Last year an estimated 80,000 participants took part in the Fun Run and it is expected that more people will participate this year.

Unlike previous years where Team PNG’s largest fundraising event was hosted in 21 centres, this time only the seven centres of Port Moresby, Lae, Kokopo, Ramu, Alotau, Madang and Goroka will host the event.

Trukai’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Ancilla Wrakuale, says this is to ensure the fun run is more manageable.

Port Moresby alone boasts the largest number of participants – between 30 and 40,000 – but more is expected this Sunday. And for this year, security has been boosted with the presence of the PNG Defence Force, Police, Correctional Services and security firm Rapid Response.

Other relevant stakeholders include the St John Ambulance, NCDC and Life PNG Care – where the latter will set up a lost tent for children. Furthermore, children-sized t-shirts come with a wrist band for parents or guardians to write down their names and contact details, and put the band around the child’s wrist during the fun run.

Only those wearing the 2019 Trukai Fun Run t-shirt will be allowed to take part.
