French duo Chavas and Cascarino commended for awards

French duo goal keeper Mylene Chavas and forward Delphine Cascarino were commended for their outstanding performance at the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2016 staged in Port Moresby from November 13-December 3.

Chavas received the Adidas Golden Glove award for her outstanding performance as goalie and Cascarino grabbed the Adidas Bronze Ball award.

Coach Gilles Eyquem said, after their 3-1 loss against Korea DPR in the final on Saturday, that the two players really deserved the awards.

“They should have no regrets missing out on lifting the trophy because they gave their best.

“But it was not enough as Korea was just the strongest team.

“Delphine should have had more time to recover during the competition but we had really big games and needed her,” Eyquem said.

Chavas has a personality that goes well with the position she plays.

The 18 year old explained after their win in the semi-final qualifier against Germany 1-0, that she manages to keep calm and stay focused throughout a match because that is just her personality.

The Adidas Golden Ball was awarded to Hina Sugita of Japan and Kim So-hyang of Korea DPR received the Silver Ball.

In other awards, the Adidas Golden Boot went to Mami Ueno of Japan, Gabi Nunes of Brazil received the Silver Boot and Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius received the Bronze Boot.

The FIFA Fair Play Award was awarded to Team Japan.
