Four athletes graduate under PNGOC scholarship

Four athletes recently graduated from the Institute of Business Studies (IBS) in Port Moresby.

This was after a year of committed studies with the institution under a scholarship from the PNG Olympic Committee’s (PNGOC) Athletes Excellence Program.

Weightlifters Dika Toua, Lorraine Harry, Toua Udia and footballer, Abel Redenut, took time out from their sports to take up studies under the program, which is supported by the IBS.

The PNGOC established the program to cater for life after sport for the country’s elite sports men and women.

Secretary General of the PNGOC, Auvita Rapilla, who witnessed the graduation, congratulated the athletes and encouraged them to pursue their careers in their chosen field when they decide to leave their competitive sporting lifestyle.

“The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee is committed to ensuring that PNG’s elite athletes are not only successful on the field of play but also in life,” said Rapilla.

Rapilla thanked IBS for their support and encouraged other athletes to make use of the program.

“IBS is recognised highly as a leader in providing excellence in education, training and research and has been a great partner of PNGOC through its support of the Trukai Fun Run.

“It is through this partnership that the Athlete Excellence Program was established for elite athletes,” said Rapilla.
