Dwellers lose 5-3 in last pool match

The Lae City Dwellers suffered a 5-3 loss today to Western United in their last pool match of the 2017 OFC Champions League at Mangere Centre Park, New Zealand.

Goals to Western United in the 17th, 21st and 37th minute of the first half had the Solomon Islands champions looking comfortable with a 3-0 lead.

The Dwellers managed to narrow the deficit just before the half-time break in the 44th minute when Raymond Gunemba cut past Anthony Talo and fired the ball into the goal.

Ken Kepe put the Dwellers right back in the contest in the 60th minute scoring to trail by just one goal with the score at 3-2.

But goals to Benjamin Totori and Atana Faarodo took the game right away from the Dwellers and put Western United firmly back in charge.

A goal to Dwellers’ George Debenham in the 90th minute made it 5-3, but it was too little too late for the boys from Lae as the final whistle was blown three minutes later.

In the other Pool C match today, Auckland City walloped Malampa Revivors 11-0 to finish undefeated, and confirm a semi-final birth.
